Someone, somewhere, somewhen, somehow, set somewhat wonky timezones for this forum.
Helsinki time is GMT +3 hours (or London +2 hours, at least in winter).

However, in order to get this forum to work with Helsinki time, I need to tell it that I'm at GMT +4 hours.

There's actually a http://greenwichmeantime.com -site. Laughing Oh well, it's needed, I was under the impression that GMT = London time... it's not.

Actually, it's supposed to be (GMT - 5) hours because the server's in New York, but that doesn't really work out right.

I played with it for about a year when I first set up the boards and couldn't get it to match up to anything that made sense, so I gave up.

We're on Greenland time, cope.

By the way, this is a nifty site, if Argentina doesn't make your brain hurt.

Actually, I think Greenland time makes perfect sense for this lot.

Could be worse, we could be on Newfoundland time.

I've always wondered why GMT is also referred to as Zulu time. Here I though the Zulus lived in South Africa, and the wonderful world of the Lion King. Any guesses?

Yeah, but timezones run north-to-south. Look at a map and you'll see that Africa is actually just below Europe.

Is jo-burg just below Grenwich? And why isn't it called grenwich time instead of zulu time? Is it sort of like that adam sandler professor who just liked the sound of the word plutonium? Someone just thought it sounded neat and went "Hey, lets call it ZULU time." Or it could have been they just broke out the monkeys and typewriters who wrote the complete works of shakespeare and had them choose a button.

Who knows.

Nope. Johannesburg is just below Helsinki, timewise. Surreal, said a friend who went halfway around the world and didn't have to reset his clock.

Time zones are easy, I just let my computer tell me what time it is. At least that worked until my computer crashed in Deleware. Then I started waking up at 6:00 am (at least it was in some time zone somewhere, I wasn't sure because the computer was dead) and having a hankerin for corn flakes in the middle of the day. I realy should learn to be less dependent on technology. I heard a rumor once that it's possible to tell what time to is by looking at the sun. After blindng myself I decided it was easier to deal with tech.

OK, so we applied wintertime tonight, so now I'm GMT + 2 hours... but need to tell the Profile that I'm at GMT + 3 hours.

Now here's the big question. Does it matter? Yes the forum lists what time you posted something but does anyone ever look at this? And if they do does it make any difference what time someone else posted something?

PS. Excuse my ignorance but this is the only forum (all of it, not just JIM's chunk) I post to.

Honestly, I've never even thought about it before this thread. It tells me which posts are new, I read those. That's all I need to know.

It very important to Salad Barbarian. Salad Barbarian use posting dates to set VCR. Granted, Salad Barbarian still trying to get hang of Daylight Saving Time since Salad Barbarian have to make early withdrawal two years ago. Now every two hours or so Salad Barbarian suffer blackouts.

(Early withdrawal penalty not as bad as Salad Barbarian first thought, but interest still big pain in the parsnips.)

Same here. The fact that it tells me what's new is nice. Almost worth registering for that reason alone.

I also agree with the posting times. I'm more concerned with what's new, as compared to when it was posted.
