Step 1: don't spam fiction boards.

This is, I assume, in reference to the 'no love for script kiddies' sign ups, some of which give east European web sites as a home address?

Just looking at the amount of spam in my Yahoo account, I think we're doomed. No matter how good the anti-spam tools are, the spammers (being in an arms race) just keep getting better.

Still, it could be worse. Consider if advertising, and thus spam, had been invented in the dark ages. Can you imagine Norse sagas?

"Now of speak of Mighty Beowold and dread Grendel, a saga of boldness, majesty and a mans wyrd! This saga is brought to thou by Bifrost! Dost thou have cracked and aching hands from rowing all day? Use Bifrost, the only anticracking bridge cream. Available from me at 50% off for the next week! And now we return to the tale of..."

Quite horrifying.

Sort of.

This was a kinda weird post by someone looking for details about a particular business deal he was about to get into. Odd thing was that the note was pretty shy on details. Short of email phishing, I'm not really sure what the angle was this guy was going for.

Looks like the autopruner removed his post.

The 'No love for Script Kiddies' bots keep hitting on a daily basis it seems. What dickwad makes these things? Were's the fun in knowing that people consider you a complete jerk?

Oh, it's much more than that, and far, far sadder than you can ever imagine.

You see, what they're trying to do is get themselves auto-inserted into the Memberlist so that when google comes a-crawlin' their entry gets picked up, the link to their online-poker (why we haven't even dated yet!) happypuppy site gets picked up and they get the tiny bit of link love they need before shuttering because their connections to the Russian Mafia went south.

And there's a bunch of them so they're always fighting against each other.

So, in effect, not only is it a constant struggle, it's ultimately a pretty futile one.

It's kind of like a guy going into a public restroom and "tagging" the toilet paper.

I'd go and fix up phpBB, but they keep rolling out fixes that aren't (shall we say) friendly to the sorts of fixes I make.

You must admit that some of the member info is funny. The last one had "Lao People's Democratic Republic" as his country. As i normally live in Thailand, that one makes me laugh.
