::Some are reading

Today on NPR there was a feature talking about summer reading lists. The thrust wasn't neccessarily great reads, or ones that will change your life, but instead they were about good, light reads. The kind of stuff you can do while at the pool or beach or while waiting in line for the $5/hr airconditioning (or from what reviews i've read so far, while enjoying said air conditioning).

There were some pretty interesting books listed (as was the latest Harry Potter and the Encyclopedia Britannica tome that just came out), but i really wanted to call in to the show (Sorry, i was driving and had other things to do).

Mostly because i wanted to strongly suggest some of the free stuff that's available on-line. Considering that the guest was from the Publishing industry, i was betting i wouldn't get a very warm reception. Still, there's actually some pretty good writing out there provided you get lucky and find it. Stuff like The Files of Hydrogen Guy, which, in spite of constant protests from the author, doesn't suck. Likewise, there's also Superhero University which is DAMN funny and creative.

Sure it may sound like i'm blowing my own horn, but if you haven't already, i'd suggest checking out the other unitedHeroes.net authors. This stuff is not Star Trek fan porn or five star city, the stories are actually very well thought out and well written. If you don't like reading things on-line, print'em out. (One of the things i need to do is work with JIM in converting the early HG chapters to PDF and try to solve this.)

And as always, each of the free series comes with a 100% money back guarantee.

there really is nothing like cracking the spine of a brand new book, smelling its pages, and smudging its print.

i prefer reading sprawled out: on the couch with the dog, on the bed with the hubby, on the floor with the dog, on the grass with my sunburn. that would require printing out any online stories i might be interested in reading.

i also tend to read for hours on end, something my eyes, back, and tendinitis would use as the final reason for mutiny. and printing off that much online reading material is nowhere near cost-effective (unless i do it at work, but thats besides the point).

perhaps if it were star trek fan porn i might be more likely to print off reams of reading material.

I've printed the HG files and given the lot to friends - more than once, too. Great stories. I expect people'll fall into Ford when they hit the HG/Ford crossover, and get hooked on the rest of the uH stories slowly but surely.

Muhahahaha! … ahem.

(slightly related: the trackback, pingback, and comment links are incorrect on your archive pages. as in, they dont work.)
